that getting a child involved in everyday choices is healthy for them and develops their independence and helps them develop overall. So some time ago I began offering Lexi choices. Would you like a sandwich for lunch or some pasta? Would you like to wear the purple shorts or the pink shorts?
Well, in theory it has gone brilliantly. However, a word which seems to jump into my vocabulary on a fairly regular basis, my shy and reserved little daughter (not) now has absolutely no hesitation in voicing her opinion, very vocally, on what she would like at whatever time it may be.
Me: Okay Lexi would you like to wear the flowery shorts or the purple shorts?
Lexi: No.
Me: Flowery shorts?
Lexi: No.
Me: Purple shorts?
Lexi: No.
Me: Green shorts?
Lexi: No.
Me: Well, which shorts would you like to wear?
Lexi: Red.
Me: You don't have any red shorts. What about the yellow shorts?
Lexi: No. I want to wear the red shorts.
Me: Lexi you don't have any red shorts.
Lexi: Hmmmmm. THESE ones.
Me: The flowery shorts. Okay Lexi.
Lexi: Yay.
Ah my days are never dull.
